Sylvia Poll defied odds to become Costa Rica's first Olympic medallist in history at the 1988 Olympics and is a former national record holder for swimming.


Her fierce perseverance and commitment to hard work have since led her to leadership positions in the private and public sector, academia and international organizations - a highly eclectic career.


She is currently working at the International Telecommunications Union and inspires colleagues with her kindness and humility.
